Course Description

Systems engineering is a wide range of areas that covers many fields: civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics engineering, and computer science technology. This course offers a broad based engineering knowledge creation during their first two years course. It has been designed for students in such a way for helping them to decide which engineering profession path that suits for them. The remaining two years will cover on areas specifically based on their area options. In addition to this course, FIT uses a unique way of blending the Discovery Year i.e. by implementing a cloud based teaching and assessment model during their third year. This also has opened chances for students to pursue their Discovery Year, not only in Brunei, but also to other well-known universities such as Stevens Institute Technology in New Jersey, USA.







Further Education

The designated curriculum in Systems Engineering equips students with broad-based with unique features related to multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge creation. Students can specialize in one of the three broad areas through research work and earn a PhD (and/or MEng, MSc) degree. The students will be working with a high degree of independence and becoming the experts in their chosen research area. Getting their work published (journal articles and conference papers) are highly encouraged.

 Why choose this course?

System engineering is concerned with the overall process of defining, developing, operating, maintaining, and ultimately replacing quality systems, where other engineering disciplines concentrate on the details of individual aspects of a system (electronics, mechanics, aerodynamics, software, etc.) Systems engineering is concerned with the integration of all of these aspects into a coherent and effective system. Systems engineers concentrate their efforts on the aspects of the engineering process (requirements definition, top-level functional designs, project management, life cycle cost analysis, etc.) that serve to organize and coordinate other engineering activities. This therefore places the system engineers as the primary interface between management, customers, suppliers, and specialty engineers in the systems development process.
