Program Description

Our Bachelor of Engineering is a wide ranging program that spans a wide range of areas that cover many exciting fields e.g.: Energy, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Information Technology and Communications Engineering, all from a systems approach. This four year duration course provides a broad based introduction to basic engineering concepts from Systems viewpoint during its first two years. It has been designed for students in such a way that they may make an informed decision on which aspect of engineering profession they wish to specialize in their final two years at UBD and in their later professional career. The final two years include advanced study modules in their area of specialization by permitting the student to study appropriate optional modules.

Students studying in the Bachelor of Engineering program have a choice of selecting one of the following 3 concentrations:

·         i) Energy Systems 

·         ii) Information and Communication Systems

           iii) Manufacturing Systems 

A broad-based interdisciplinary philosophy was put into practice by the founders of the faculty from the first graduating class. While the original area of concentration was general engineering, and as the title of the faculty, Integrated Technologies, the curriculum included courses in all of the current engineering disciplines; mechanical, civil, chemical, and electrical engineering. This also has opened chances for students to pursue their Discovery Year, not only in Brunei, but also to other well-known universities such as Stevens Institute Technology in New Jersey, USA.

 

 

 

                                                                                             

 

 

Further Education

The designated curriculum in Bachelor of Engineering equips students with broad-based with unique features related to multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge creation. Students can specialize in one of the three broad areas through research work and earn a PhD (and/or MEng, MSc) degree. The students will be working with a high degree of independence and becoming the experts in their chosen research area. Getting their work published (journal articles and conference papers) are highly encouraged.

Our Bachelor of Engineering program with concentrations in Energy Systems, Information & Communication Systems and Manufacturing Systems, is concerned with the overall process of designing, developing, operating, maintaining, and ultimately manufacturing quality systems, whereas other engineering disciplines concentrate on the details of individual aspects of a system (electronics, mechanics, aerodynamics, software, etc.) The program is concerned with the integration of all of these aspects into a coherent and effective concentration.  The qualified engineers concentrate their efforts on the aspects of the engineering process (requirements definition, top-level functional designs, project management, life cycle cost analysis, etc.) that serve to organize and coordinate other engineering activities. This therefore places the system engineers as the primary interface between management, customers, suppliers, and specialty engineers in the systems development process.
